How Many Dispensaries Does CannMenus Actually Track?

As of March 2026, CannMenus actively monitors menu data from 9,463 dispensaries with confirmed best-available menu providers. These are dispensaries where we have real-time access to their product listings, pricing, and availability — updated every 1-2 hours. This number isn't inflated with dormant profiles or estimated locations. Every one of these 9,000+ dispensaries has an active menu source that we pull data from on a regular cadence. When we say we track a dispensary, we mean we can tell you what products they have listed, at what prices, right now. Our database contains profiles for 19,545 dispensaries total — including locations that have closed, don't have online menus, or operate in markets where we're still building coverage. The 9,463 with active tracking represents the dispensaries where our data is current and reliable.

Coverage by State: Where We're Strongest

Not all states are created equal when it comes to data coverage. Here's how our tracking breaks down across the major legal cannabis markets: **90%+ Coverage (near-complete):** West Virginia (93%), Illinois (90%), Ohio (89%), Maryland (89%), Nevada (88%), Virginia (88%), Arkansas (86%), Missouri (84%), Massachusetts (84%), Arizona (83%), New Jersey (83%), Connecticut (83%). In these markets, we see nearly every dispensary menu. When we estimate market-level sales or pricing trends, the data is highly representative. **60-79% Coverage (strong):** Florida (79%), Mississippi (75%), Vermont (73%), Louisiana (72%), Minnesota (67%), South Dakota (67%), Washington (66%), New York (65%), Alaska (64%), California (62%), Michigan (62%), Maine (61%), Oregon (60%). These are large, competitive markets where our coverage captures the majority of retail activity. California and Michigan — two of the biggest cannabis markets in the country — sit at 62% coverage, which translates to roughly 1,000 and 686 dispensaries respectively. **40-59% Coverage (growing):** Colorado (56%), Montana (57%), New Mexico (47%), Pennsylvania (43%), Ontario (43%). We're actively expanding coverage in these markets. Colorado's lower percentage is partly because the state has an unusually high number of dispensaries per capita, and many smaller operations don't maintain robust online menus.

Ontario: Our First International Market

We track 867 dispensaries in Ontario, Canada — out of approximately 2,007 total licensed retail locations. At 43% coverage, Ontario is our most-covered Canadian province and our first meaningful international market. Ontario's cannabis retail landscape is different from most US markets. The province has a centralized distribution model through the Ontario Cannabis Store (OCS), but individual retailers operate independently and set their own prices. This creates interesting competitive dynamics that our menu data captures well — particularly around pricing strategy and assortment decisions. We're monitoring demand for expansion into other Canadian provinces. British Columbia (144 tracked), Alberta (83), and Manitoba (30) have early-stage coverage that we can scale if the market demands it.

What These Numbers Mean for Data Quality

Coverage percentage directly impacts data quality in two ways: **Sales estimates:** Our sales models use coverage as an adjustment factor. In Illinois (90% coverage), our market-level sales estimates are very close to actual — we're seeing nearly every transaction. In Colorado (56% coverage), we apply a larger adjustment factor, which means wider confidence intervals. We're transparent about this: our API and dashboard tools label adjusted vs. observed figures differently. **Competitive intelligence:** For brand distribution analysis and competitive tracking, even 50% coverage is highly useful. If you can see that your competitor just appeared on 30 new dispensary menus in Colorado, that signal is valid whether we track 56% or 100% of the state. The relative patterns — who's gaining shelf space, who's losing it, where stockouts are happening — are reliable at our current coverage levels. How We're Growing Coverage

Our coverage expands in two ways: new dispensary menu integrations and new state market launches. On the integration side, we continuously add new menu sources. When a dispensary launches an online menu — whether through Dutchie, iHeartJane, Weedmaps, or their own website — our system typically discovers and starts tracking it within 24-48 hours. We don't require any partnership or API access from the dispensary; we monitor publicly available menu data. On the market side, we prioritize states based on market size, regulatory maturity, and customer demand. States like New York and Ohio have seen rapid coverage expansion as their adult-use markets have launched and dispensary counts have grown. If you operate in a market where our coverage doesn't meet your needs, reach out. Understanding where the demand is helps us prioritize expansion.
