What This Does

Connecting CannMenus to Perplexity gives you a direct line to real-time cannabis market data inside your Perplexity session. No dashboards, no exports - just ask questions in plain English and get answers pulled from live menu, pricing, and distribution data. Perplexity will blend CannMenus data with web sources for richer, citation-backed answers.

MCP Server URL

This is the only URL you need. Copy it and follow the steps below.

How to Connect

  1. Step 1

    Open Perplexity Settings

Go to perplexity.ai, click your profile icon in the bottom-left corner, then click Settings.

  2. Step 2

    Find MCP Servers

In Settings, scroll down to the MCP Servers section (you need a Perplexity Pro subscription for this feature).

  3. Step 3

    Add the CannMenus Server

Click Add. In the URL field, paste: https://api.cannmenus.com/mcp/ — name it "CannMenus" and click Save.

  4. Step 4

    Authorize with Your CannMenus Account

Perplexity will open a CannMenus login page. Sign in with your CannMenus account (the same one you use at cannmenus.com). This links your data permissions automatically via OAuth.

  5. Step 5

    Start a New Thread

Open a new Perplexity thread. CannMenus tools are now available as a data source. When you ask about cannabis market data, Perplexity will call CannMenus tools alongside its web search to give you grounded, data-backed answers.

Example Prompts to Try

Tips

  • "What are the top 5 edible brands in California by retailer count?"
  • "Which dispensaries in Colorado dropped Wyld products this month?"
  • "Compare pricing for 1g vape carts in Michigan vs Illinois"
  • "Show me brands gaining distribution in Florida"
  • "What's the average flower price in Oregon right now?"
  • "How does the Massachusetts cannabis market compare to Illinois in total sales?"

Tips and Best Practices

Tips

  • Always mention the state in your question. CannMenus data is organized by state, and queries without a state will be slower or fail.
  • Perplexity blends CannMenus data with web sources automatically. This is great for questions like "How does brand X's pricing compare to what industry reports say about the category?"
  • If Perplexity isn't using the CannMenus tools, try being more explicit: "Using CannMenus data, show me the top flower brands in Colorado."
  • For market size and sales questions, ask for "estimated sales" or "sales rankings" to trigger the right tools.
  • Be specific: "Top 10 flower brands in Illinois by sales, last 30 days" works better than "Tell me about Illinois cannabis."
  • Try asking for comparisons across states or time periods to get the most out of the data.

When to Use Perplexity vs Other Options

Perplexity is the best choice when you want CannMenus data combined with web research in a single answer. It cites its sources, so you can verify where data came from. Use the CannMenus Pro dashboards when you want visual charts, recurring alerts, or to share data with your team. The built-in Canndice AI on cannmenus.com is great for quick lookups without switching tools. Claude or ChatGPT are better for deep multi-step analysis sessions.
