How to Refresh Your CannMenus Tools in Claude

Connected CannMenus to Claude before a new feature shipped? Here's how to refresh your tools list on claude.ai, Claude Desktop, and Claude Code so new tools like retail_menu_deals and product_deals show up.

Why Your Tools List Needs a Refresh

When you connect CannMenus to Claude, Claude loads the list of tools the connector offers at that moment — product search, sales rankings, price comparisons, and so on. When we ship a new capability, it arrives as new tools on that same connector. The latest example: our live menu deals and promotions launch added two new tools, retail_menu_deals and product_deals. If you connected CannMenus before a launch, an existing conversation keeps using the tool list it started with — so the new tools won't appear until Claude fetches a fresh list. The fix takes under a minute, and it's slightly different depending on where you use Claude.

On claude.ai (Web)

The simplest refresh is to start a new conversation — Claude fetches the current tool list from each connected app at the start of every new chat, so new CannMenus tools usually appear there automatically. If they still don't show up, go to Settings, open Connectors, find CannMenus in your list, and toggle it off and back on (or choose the reconnect option from its menu). Then start a fresh conversation and ask Claude "what CannMenus tools do you have?" — you should see the deals tools in its answer.

In Claude Desktop

Claude Desktop uses the same Connectors settings as claude.ai: open Settings, go to Connectors, and reconnect or toggle the CannMenus connector, then start a new chat. If you added CannMenus as a local MCP server through the desktop configuration file instead of the connectors directory, fully quit and reopen the app — Claude Desktop reloads each server's tool list on startup, and new conversations will pick up the refreshed tools.

In Claude Code

In Claude Code, run the /mcp command to see your connected servers and the tools each one exposes. Tool lists are fetched when a session starts, so the usual fix is simply starting a new session after we ship an update. If CannMenus doesn't appear or looks stale, check your server configuration with claude mcp list from the terminal and re-authenticate or re-add the CannMenus server if prompted — the next session will load the current tool list.

Confirm It Worked

The quickest test is to ask a question that only a new tool can answer. After the deals launch, try "What deals is Sunnyside Chicago running today?" — if Claude answers with live promotions from that store, your refresh worked and retail_menu_deals is available. If Claude says it doesn't have a tool for that, run through the reconnect steps above once more, and if it's still stuck, email support@cannmenus.com and we'll get you sorted.
