It's not every day that you get to try the best of the best cannabis strains in the state. Judging for the cannabis cup is a rare experience to say the least. We sent a member of the CannMenus team to participate in the High Times 2022 Illinois Cannabis Cup. Once we got started, it was clear that this was something we will definitely do again.
Illinois High Times Cannabis Cup 2022 - What is it like to be a judge?
The judging kit
The judging kits for the 2022 Illinois High Times Cannabis Cup became available on July 24 and are available on a first come, first serve basis until supplies run out at participating dispensaries. Judging takes place from July 24 through September 18. Winners will be announced at an award show on September 18th.
This year, the Illinois Cannabis Cup hosted a total of 11 categories. These included flowers from indica, sativa, and hybrid strains. There were also concentrates and extracts as well as edibles, pre-rolls, vape pens and gummies.
In order to determine the winner in each category, there is an online judging process that takes place until September 18th. Judges are able to submit their votes during this time period using criteria like: aroma, flavor and effects.
Can I still become a Judge?

Final thoughts
The judging experience was really fun. The process was easy, you score all the entries online through the High Times Judges portal. You get a chance to try producers and strains you may not have tried in the past. You will find new favorites and learn who really reigns supreme in Illinois Cannabis.
